The first Sida Development Area 2008 takes place Monday, February 18, from 9:00 to 13:00 and Carl Mossfeldt moderates the session.

Growing strains on our ecosystems translate directly into wider security threats. Pollution, desertification, fresh water scarcity, storms, etc, cause dislocation, political instability and violent conflict. This in turn sets back development by decades.

This also impacts on regional and global economic patterns, with new risks for investors and corporations. Here the need for social, environmental, political and economic stability go hand in hand.

Two thirds of the world's population live in countries that are at high risk of instability as a consequence of climate change. The very poorest are hit the hardest.

A holistic perspective of security is necessary. And preparedness is needed on the part of organizations, businesses, politicians and state agencies.

How can these different actors adapt to a new risk landscape while also more successfully prevent tensions and conflicts? Can the new risks lead to increased and improved cooperation for sustainable development?

Carl Mossfeldt, CEO of Tällberg Advisors, also moderated another Sida workshop with a focus on Trade and Growth in Africa. Carl was recently named one of the top talents of Sweden by Veckans Affärer (Business Week of Sweden), referring to his leadership with the Tällberg Forum and his distinguished international career.
